Intramurals and Athletics at Erin Mills

Erin Mills offers students the opportunity to participate in athletics and physical activities through our curricular and extracurricular programs. Our curricular program involves students taking Physical and Health Education classes on 4 out of the 6 days of the timetable. Also, students will receive Daily Physical Activity (D.P.A.) during homeroom on non-Phys. Ed. days.

Our extracurricular program allows students to continue being active and involved in school life “outside” of the classroom through one of the following:

1) Intramurals - during our lunch hour, students will have the opportunity to participate in fun games [throughout the year]

2) Athletic Council - students in grades 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to demonstrate commitment, leadership, communication, and safety through:
a) running intramurals, tournaments, and school events
b) assisting with equipment set-up, score keeping etc.
c) being a phys. ed. advocate
[Applications are accepted in Sept.]

3) Daily Physical Activity (D.P.A.) - students will participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity inside (classroom, stage, hallway) or outside
[all year]

4) Spirit Days - Toonie for Terry Spirit Day, 5 km Fundraiser Walk, Winter Activities and School Dances
[throughout the year]

5) Winter Camp - is a 5 day/4 night excursion to Pioneer Camp in Port Sydney, Ontario, available to grade 7 and 8 students (2009/10 cost - $400). Students participate in winter-based outdoor activities, and other cooperative games. [Monday, Jan. 11, - Friday, January 15, 2010]

6) School Teams - the following school teams are offered for students to try out for:
a) Fall - flag football, field hockey, cross country running, volleyball
b) Winter - volleyball (cont’d), basketball
c) Spring - cross country running, soccer, track and field, and slo-pitch

TRY-OUTS and PRACTICES

Try-outs and practices for school teams will take place during one of the following times:
1. Morning - 7:45 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
2. Lunch - 11:58 p.m. - 12:38 p.m.
3. After-school - 3:10 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

NOTE: As with any extracurricular activity offered at Erin Mills, it is the student’s responsibility to keep up with and maintain their school work and/or behaviour, or else risk being removed or not chosen for a school team or activity!
