Registration Information

If You Are Coming From Another Peel District School (Public)

If you are transferring your child from another Peel District School Board School, you need to bring proof of address that you live within our school’s boundaries. This could be a lease or purchase agreement or a telephone, bank statement, cable or hydro bill with your name and address printed on the bill. We prefer transfer papers from the last school but this is not an absolute requirement. Also, we would ask that you bring your child's birth certificate/landed immigrant documentation (if appropriate) and proof of immunization. If your child has special needs or is in a special education or ESL program at her/his current school, would you please be sure to mention this at the time of registration in order that the appropriate class placement can be made. If your child is changing schools because of a recent custody settlement and there is a custody agreement that limits access for the noncustodial parent, it is your responsibility to ensure that a copy of the custody order is presented to the school at the time of registering your child. Your word or a letter from your lawyer is not sufficient to limit custody in a Peel School. Proper court documentation must be presented to the office. Parents must also bring personal identification in order for us to verify that the child is being registered by an adult who has legal custody. If your child has an Ontario Health Card, we would also like to take a copy of this. A student fee (determined annually) is also required at the time of registration.

If You Are Coming From Another School Board Or Are New To Canada

If you are coming from a Board other than the Peel District School Board, you will need to provide proof of address (see above) as well as proof of citizenship (landed immigration papers if you are new to Canada) or a birth certificate if you are a Canadian citizen. All registrants from outside of Peel must provide proof of immunization before a child can start classes in a Peel School. Parents must also bring personal identification in order for us to verify that the child is being registered by an adult who holds legal custody. Please refer to the first paragraph for issues regarding custody of the student. A student fee (determined annually) is also required at the time of registration. Start Dates and Students Requiring ESL (English as a Second Language)

We want your child’s first day at Erin Mills to be as stress free and organized as possible. For this reason we seldom have students start on the same day they are registered. Because of our rotary timetable and the fact that all students are assigned lockers and homerooms, we like to have these in place before the student starts to attend classes. In most cases, your child will begin school at Erin Mills the day following her/his registration unless documentation such as immunization is lacking.

If your child is new to Canada, we will arrange to have one of our ESL teachers meet with him/her to assess English proficiency. This may have some bearing on class placement and in some cases a child may need to change classes shortly after registration in order to receive the proper level of ESL support. In order to minimize disruptions for our new students, our staff will endeavour to complete this assessment at the time of registration or very soon thereafter.
